Under The Stars is a Sheffield-based social enterprise run by people with a learning disability and their friends. We run proper nights out and people come to the clubs so they can have a good time in a safe environment, meet up with old friends and make new ones.
We took over the charity Sooper Troopers in 2016 and have now expanded and are delivering drama workshops for people with learning disabilities. Our activities increase confidence, people skills, reduce social exclusion and build bridges with the local community.
Under the Stars drama workshops run four days a week, with the aim of enabling adults with learning disabilities to develop drama and performance skills. This includes improvisation skills, performance and people devising their performances from start to finish. People on the course have a wide range of disabilities and differing experiences and interest in drama. All the groups have regular opportunities to perform and showcase their work. We also run music and drama workshops where people with learning disabilities can learn rock band instruments, write lyrics and songs, DJ and perform in a band and write.
